Contextual Task: a piece from a game artist

Analyzing a scene from "Assassin's Creed: Syndicate "

It took me quite a while to find a game I wanted to talk about since there were so many. However, this particular screenshot of Assassin's creed Syndicate has been my background wallpaper for years since the game's release. I am in love with the character and its story, so I decided to analyse it.

Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate is set in London in 1868, the start of the Second Industrial Revolution. Although, the atmosphere of the game is gloomy as the city of London is covered in smog and smoke from the factories, with the main theme of the game being to kill the enemies and take back their territory. This rendered scene of the game is the complete opposite of what the game normally is.

The colour usage of warm and cool tones of the sky gives the audience a calm and tranquil, the colour also reflects onto the grey muddy water on the river Thames and greyish buildings which make the piece almost monochromatic. The value is used to show the distance of each object as the character in the foreground is darker than the buildings in the distance. The object with the darkest value is the charter to show that he is the protagonist and use as the focal point of the picture.

The character has taken off his hoodie and put on the top hat to symbolize that he is just like other normal people within the scene, his shape language has changed from triangle (a killer/dangerous person/faster movement/sneaky) into a rectangle-shaped (strength/stability/confidence)
