Instead of drawing on iterations, I decided to mess around and create iterations with 3dsMax instead. By using 3d space to create my level, I can see the dimension and adjust things until I am content before photobashing on the model.
Process
I start by making a basic base and the wall as followed from the sketch I did.
I use rather basic shape on my stage, thinking that I will photobash in more complex objects and add my own assets/details onto the block out later
I create a cog/gear and duplicate them to put it on the base of my arena. Indicating that this carousal-circus can turn and spin around to confuse the hero that is going to fight the boss in here.
I then remodel the hero asset to make it more detailed. Placing it back on the boxy stage in my arena.

Final Block Out
I am quite happy with how it turns out! I try to keep the shape simple and the block out stays as block out as I will and the detail and give them additional shape when I render the piece.
