The task for this week was to observe and draw organic shapes and man-made objects with a focus on tone variations.
The object I choose for this task is a kettle, vase, wooden box with walnuts and a new flower I haven't seen in the studio before this, so I was so excited to finally get to draw out a new type of flower. Together on flower embroidered cloth.

I immediately start by doing the thumbnails and lining out the grids to my drawing.
I lightly block out where are all the objects would be with a 3B pencil
Start adding more weight to the sketch after I am confident with the composition
adding in the box and making the lines clearer with more details of the flower block outs.
Fixing the shape and symmetry of the vas a little along with marking out cloth folds. I start adding the petals of the ball flowers and try to understand the volume of it.
Adding patterns to the vase and the cloth with Flower patterns
starting to add value to the picture, starting from the darkest value which is the kettle's handle and then the vase.
rendering other objects' value. I got the cloth shading technique after asking for advice, putting subtle shading under the flowers will make them pop up and looks like actual embroidery. I find this very helpful and appreciate the tips a lot.
The flowers have the lightest value because of the further distances from the vase.
Final Piece
A3 size sketchbook, pencils 2B – 6B, eraser, putty rubber
This year is a lot different than last year, I find myself struggling and hate my traditional work a lot less and starting to have fun after understanding more. I am very proud of the crosshatching and the value I put on the object with different distances. But what I am the proudest of is the cloth and the vase pattern
Year 1 week 15 VS Year 2 week 2
The improvement is so big! I didn't know my past work was that bad. When I remember how many times I've drawn the same vase I pick up my old sketchbook to make a comparison.
