Tiling Textures & Alphas: Tree

Initial ideas

I start the project with mood boards as normal. I searched for both realistic tree I could model after and types of tree that have unique features so I can follow it. I started from Wisteria because of the shape of its leaves before I changed my mind to use Wisteria tree because of how colourful it is. The leaves I will make as an alpha will become flowers instead which is challenging for me and I am up for it.
I later search for art styles, colour palette and texture processes to use as a reference to my work.

First mood board for life study
Second mood board for art style, colour, and texture study.

Final Piece

Without Moss
With Moss

I am quite happy with the bark I created and the colour scheme used on this piece. However, I think I could do a lot better to achieve the more realistic bark texture as my bark looks a little bit too veiny. The moss was a final minute decision and I really like it but I am not sure at the time how it will look as tiling on the cylinder in 3dsMax

On 3dsMax

I tried the tiling on 3dsMax and, in my opinion, it was not half bad. The moss however was very messy sine it is an organic object and shouldn’t be repeated as much like tiles or wood texture. Overall, this practice is qiute fun.
