Human Head Construction. Part 3 - The Human Face (with model)

The first task of term 2, This task is meant to serve as a refresher and advance my understanding of the anatomy of the human face by looking at the positioning, scale, and proportions of its many facial features. I am quite nervous about human anatomy especially facial features that I am not used to. But because the model is the same as last year's. In my opinion, I might do well!

Process

I started with a small thumbnail to get the composition of the setting and draw sketching out the rough shapes of the face.

I added in the position of facial features such as eyes and nose. My muscle memory tends to make me draw features that are used in my usual style which causes a lot of erasing and redrawing.

In the picture above and below is the different in how my work turns out after feat backs. I tend to create a very prominent dip into the eye sockets and the jaw was too small. After fixing it, I can see a great difference between the two pictures.

After I was approved and content with my own sketch of the face structure, I continue working on shadow and shading. This part is the most enjoyable part of this task.

Final Piece

After cleaning up and finalizing the picture, the end result is quite satisfying to me since I did not practice life figures during the break. The feedback of my facial features drawing makes me aware more of how I am using my own style and memory of how I draw things instead of observing the figure. I will be sure to observe more in the future instead to improve myself.
