Virtual Tour: The National Portrait Gallery

This task is a Self-directed task in which I need to produce one final drawing (head and shoulders). The portrait I went with was of my sister's. After I go the task I immediately find a train and go to her place.
Of course to hang out but also for her to be my model for this work!

I look at the reference given in blackboard which is to observe the colour palette and how the picture is painted in the Virtual Gallery rooms

I use mostly these 2 rooms as references because it has the most colour on their skin for me to use as a reference. The skin on each painting for every link are all so pale, I wasn't sure how to translate that to my work with my sister's skin having an olive undertone.

Process

Drawing out the face before painting
Layering the base of the skin to give a yellow undertone
Laying pink, red and blues on top and rendering the skin
The colour for the hair base is blue before laying black and a little bit of red to make them darker
Starting the green sweater with reddish brown because of the warm lighting in the room. Adding highlights and finalizing the piece.

Final Piece

Tool used: 2B pencil, acrylic paint, A3 paper (300g)

I am very happy with the result! This work took me 2 full days to finish rendering and it was such a fun piece to work with. It was a great change of pace since I've done nothing but pencil work this entire year so I really enjoy it. It could use more rendering but after not touching paint for so long, I'm surprised I still got a hang of it. This task also makes me aware of lighting a lot more than any other piece.
